The Senior Life Cycle Analyst helps support Fortescue’s strategy and efforts to evaluate sustainability related to business actions and map and reduce the footprint of Fortescue’s products and supply chain. This position requires detailed engineering knowledge that can be applied to Life Cycle thinking to support Fortescue’s life cycle assessment activities and requests for sustainability targets and performance. This position will independently conduct and manage projects pertaining to life cycle assessments, or related approaches.
Assess/guide/communicate on the life cycle impacts of Fortescue’s products, technologies, and supply chain in accordance with ISO (International Organization for Standardization) standards and other associated methodologies – ensuring robust/credible outcomes to inform on strategy, marketing, and communication needs and make recommendations to reduce Fortescue’s footprint
Work with Fortescue business units to improve and ensure high accuracy of product carbon footprint models of manufactured products
Support other Business Units, Procurement and commercial teams with knowledge and Q & A about Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) and product carbon footprint methodologies
Review and assess supplier reports and models
Partner with functions/business areas to understand sustainability priorities and guide development of methods/tools/assessments to support needs
Integrate life cycle assessment tools to inform internal processes
Provide guidance to guide external-facing teams with customer presentations and engagement on sustainability
Participate in internal and external working groups and facilitate alignment as needed
Govern continuous education on emerging trends and requirements in the field
Develop standard work and processes relevant to team activities and development into associated documentation
Guide teams in developing communication materials and environmental product claims related to product sustainability assessment
Lead building assessment capability through activities such as evaluation and exploration of new methods or contributing to the development of data and systems
Where required support validation of models with external verifiers and audits of calculations
Keep updated on the development of LCA and carbon footprint methodologies and standards setting and reporting requirements
Provide engineering guidance and support to Green Certification
Qualifications and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Science, or a related field, required
Minimum of 7+ years’ post graduate experience in an engineering or technical role
Experience in a technical or engineering role in an Operator / Owner’s, Manufacturing, or Research and Development organisation desirable
Understanding/interest in issues related to the environment, circular economy and eco-design as they relate to products and operations
Familiarity with life cycle assessment standards and guidelines (including ISO 14040/14044) and corporate sustainability standards, desired
Experience using life cycle assessment software and developing models (Eg: SimaPro , GaBi) desired
