Principal Structural Geologist

Role Details:

Reporting to the Chief Geoscientist, you will work collaboratively with the integrated Geosciences team, utilising extensive skills to support the development of advanced structural understandings of Exploration projects. This role uses industry leading experience to ensure the company Exploration Project Pipeline is focussed on highest quality projects from the Target Generative stages to Mineral Resource and Mine operations. Mentoring and coaching of Exploration team members in Structural Geology will be a critical aspect of this role requiring exceptional interpersonal skills and knowledge transfer.

This role is offered on a 5 days on 2 days off roster (Monday – Friday) at our Perth corporate office on a permanent basis.

About the role:

• Improve the quality of Gold Fields exploration project portfolio through application of structural geology into leading practice target generation and area selection;
• Drive targeting for future discoveries in greenfields exploration and assist with target generation within existing Gold Fields tenure;
• Lead development and analysis of regional frameworks of priority geological terranes and undertake terrane analysis of Australia to determine highest prospectively regions;
• Ensure structural geology excellence in Gold Fields, including developing systems and provide training in structural information dataset collection, interrogation and interpretation for Australia;
• Manage integration of embedded research findings relating to structural and model geology into Gold Fields to facilitate and accelerate the geological and structural understanding;
• Assist in recognition and due diligence of future growth opportunities through participation in Business Development activities;
• Provide mentoring and training to exploration team in structural interpretation of respective geological projects;
• Provide high level technical reports and presentations;
• Guild intellectual property and resources, including geological databases, and industry/academia contacts.

About you:

• Post graduate qualifications (PhD) in structural geology
• Membership of relevant industry bodies (AIG or AusIMM)
• Extensive experience in the resources industry including both greenfields and brownfields exploration environments
• Extensive experience relating to variety Gold Mineralisation Systems in Australia and globally
• Demonstrated experience in detailed structural analysis and modelling of complex gold mineral systems
• Previous experience in interpretation and construction of regional scale 3D geological models and structural synthesis
• Experience in project appraisals
