About the Role
This position is a fantastic opportunity to join the senior leadership team at Iluka’s Jacinth Ambrosia (JA) mine site.
Reporting to the JA Operations Manager, the Health and Safety Superintendent is accountable for Jacinth-Ambrosia’s approach to health and safety, with a key focus on driving continuous improvement in site health and safety performance. This position is required to deliver health and safety strategy, manage governance and systems compliance requirements as well as providing specialist technical health and safety advice and support to the site’s operations.
The main responsibilities of the position are:
Establish, lead and monitor health and safety programs and systems to effectively manage those risks whilst driving continuous improvement by actively seeking new or alternative approaches to health and safety.
Leadership and management of one direct report and oversight of the Emergency Response Team and Site Medic Team.
Compliance and management of:
All aspects of occupational health and hygiene, including monitoring and statutory reporting.
Workers’ compensation, injury prevention and injury management processes.
Contractor pre-qualifications and tracking their safety performance to ensure high standards are maintained.
Cost control, budgeting and reporting on health and safety performance.
Training, support, influencing and building of health and safety capacity at all levels.
We are seeking a respected health and safety professional who thrives on demonstrating excellent leadership skills while being hands-on, influencing outcomes and building strong relationships to make a positive impact at an operational site.
To be successful in the role you will have:
Relevant qualifications in Health and Safety.
A thorough understanding of leading practices for health and safety management, WHS legislation in Australia, in particular mining approvals, legislation and processes.
Previous experience in the resources industry is essential.
A proven track record of providing proactive advice, guidance, coaching, inspiration and for delivering health and safety service outcomes to a diverse stakeholder group so that they become effective contributors and owners of their own and their team’s health and safety.

Knowledge of investigation techniques such as ICAM and 5 Whys.
An approachable professional who has strong communication, interpersonal, influencing and negotiation skills.

Current ‘C’ class drivers’ licence.
Desired attributes include WHS auditing, training and assessing, paramedical knowledge, SAP and Cintellate.

Location and Travel
This position is FIFO from Adelaide or Ceduna on a roster of 8 days on 6 days off, which will be attractive to those looking for a lifestyle and family-friendly roster. The roster is back to back with a Health and Safety Specialist.
Whilst on-site the Health and Safety Superintendent will stay at the Jacinth-Ambrosia Village which provides employees with high standard facilities including ensuite cabin-style accommodation (bathroom, air-conditioning, bar fridge, TV/DVD, Austar and internet connection, linen and towels), fully equipped gymnasium, swimming pools, sports court, wet mess and fully catered mess hall providing all meals and crib facilities.
Jacinth-Ambrosia is located 270 kilometers north of the Port of Thevenard, near Ceduna. It is the world’s largest source of zircon, and a tier 1 deposit with extensive reserves. It is the first mining development in a mixed-use regional reserve – the Yellabinna Regional Reserve – in South Australia, with the operation demonstrating a commitment to high environmental standards, including progressive land rehabilitation, as well as a commitment to indigenous employment, which currently comprises 20-25 percent of the workforce.
